Learning the right skin care is one of the most important things that you will ever do. Our faces are the first things that people see when they look at us, our faces are seen before our voices are even heard in most cases and that is why they are so important. Everything in life is about first impressions and that is why you need to start taking care of your skin from this day forward. And one of the most effective ways for you to go about doing this is with good herbal skin care.

We have all heard that we need to be drinking plenty of water each day and that our complexion can reflect what we are eating at meal time but who knows that kinds of cleansers and scrubs are really right? There are so many conflicting reports out there that this subject can be very confusing. Herbal skin care is all about boiling things down to their basics, their natural basics.

Why would you want to slather chemicals on your skin every morning and every night? It is a far better idea to choose the things that are given to us from nature, these are the kinds of skin care products that our bodies will thank us for in the end.

And if that is not the best reason for you and your lifestyle just think of all the money you can save. There are all kinds of herbal skin care products that you can make yourself right there in your very own kitchen. This is a great way to give your face new life and vitality while going easy on the wallet at the same time! I don’t know about you but any skin care that works and that will save me money is the kind that I want to be using.

Many people are confused with the large amount of products that are on the market as a treatment for cellulite and that is completely normal to be honest. It can confuse the largest part of the population when you consider the fact that most people are not up on all the latest research. When a new product comes out there is always a lot of media attention given to it and people will usually get the full scoop about the product within a short time. But, there are those products that are released with little or no media attention and that means that the general public will not be able to get the information without a little or a lot of research. This is not something that most people would enjoy doing so they are instead going to take the product at face value. Lets take cellulite contouring cream as an example. People for the most part are not sure of what this is and it received very little in the way of information and media attention. Well the fact is that it worked very well for a lot of people until it was discovered that some of the companies that were making the product were not putting in it what they said they were. This caused a stir in the world and a lot of people were in a lot of trouble real quick. This is how a lack of consumer knowledge can really have an adverse effect on the way that a product is rated. If you are not careful and do your homework the you could end up with a treatment for cellulite that is nothing more than water and saw dust to be honest. There are several watch dog groups that seek to end this kind of fraud and they have the very best in information on how to rate a treatment for cellulite.

If you are looking for a cellulite contouring cream then you should stick with the most reputable companies that offer the best guarantee and the money back if you are not satisfied. This tells you that the treatment for cellulite is rather good and they are sure that you are going to be happy and see the results that they promise. Only through information can you protect yourself as a consumer and make sure that the frauds stay out of the way.

You have done all of your research and are now ready to go to your hair extension appointment. Your stylist should tell you about how long it will take and whether you should bring anything, i.e. small lunch, books or magazines to read, etc.

If you are unhappy about the color of the extensions, you should mention it right away-early in that attachment process. It may be easier for the stylist to change a color when the hair extensions are not attached to your head.

Hair extensions attachment should not physically hurt you. If your stylist is using a braiding/sew-in method, it is possible to get the braids too tight. This will result in tension and additional stress at the scalp, resulting in scalp soreness and possibly your natural hair falling out.

As far as tipping is concerned, you should tip your stylist for his/her time and the quality of the work they have done. Tips for hair extension services can range from 0-15% of the total price for the service.

Be sure to ask very specific questions about how to take care of your hair extensions? What shampoos, conditioners should you use, can you comb/brush the hair, can you air-dry your hair after you wash it, can you go swimming, can you perm or color the hair, etc.

Improper maintenance of the hair extensions can shorten their life.

Good Luck with your hair extensions!!! Drop us an Email at editor@hairresources.com with some before/after photos and your experience with hair extensions. We count on your input to provide useful information to others that want hair extensions.

There is a fine line between effective and expensive when it comes to the many beauty products on the market and the same is true of effective cellulite treatments. There is a problem with the bulk of people that are using these products because they for some reason believe that they are a cure when in truth they are nothing more than an effective cellulite treatments. Of course people are not all that impressed with a lot of the products on the market because of the fact that they believe them to be a cure all for the cellulite that they have. Well they all need to realize that these treatments are meant as supplements to the natural reaction that your body has to the cellulite. When you are looking for the best lotion for cellulite you need to understand that they are meant to be used with the regular exercise and diet program that you are already using to combat cellulite. If you are looking for something that will completely take away the cellulite then you are actually looking in the wrong place. The most effective cellulite treatments are those that are used to supplement the best exercise regimen to help the body learn to combat the fat cells from turning into cellulite. This is nothing that is new by far as most of the products that have been released in the past ten years have all been meant for the supplemental usage with the diet and exercise.

When you are looking for the best lotion for cellulite then you should take the time to do a bit of research into the ratings for each of the products. There are some products on the market that are showing some great results and making a lot of people feel a lot better about the body that they have. There is no reason why you should not use these products but you should understand that you are not going to see the best of the best results when it comes to the cellulite unless you are dieting and exercising at the same time you are using the lotion. The most effective cellulite treatments are those that require you to take some more pride in your appearance and make the changes to help with the body’s need for development.

A person’s skin usually reflects his/her self. And, therefore, it is imperative that you keep your skin in good shape. For that, you will need to use a daily cleansing, toning, and moisturizing regimen. Having such a regimen in place will reward your skin richly. It will look young and fresh.

There are plenty of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing products available on the market today. A good example would be products from The Body Shop. The Body Shop has a host of wonderful skincare products such as scrubs, moisturizers, cleansers, and the like.

Also, the best skincare product around is drinking water. Drink plenty of water and your skin is automatically rejuvenated and hydrated. Maintaining enough water in your body system also helps your body to get rid of harmful toxins and other abnormalities in your blood that can affect your skin. It also prevents acne and pimple formations.

There is a company known as H2O+, which has an array of wonderful skincare products that are based on water. They also have sea-derived skincare products. Some of their products have been recommended by some top beauty and lifestyle magazines. Their products included a healthy range of hydrating creams, exfoliating creams, and antioxidant creams.

Many of these branded products cost slightly more, but they are all worth the extra cost. And moreover, it’s all good for your skin and makes you look good and feel good as well.

There are many more skincare products from other brands such as Olay, Nivea, Neutrogena, and Garnier, among others. You can purchase skincare products manufactured by these companies at several different stores or online.

AT midnight in Aberdeen city centre a dozen glamorous ladies troop out of a small shop in Skene Street, laughing as they wave goodbye to their two young male hosts.

Two young Shetlanders, Andrew Gray and Ed Freshwater, begin to clear up the debris - a pile of hair clippings and wine glasses with lipstick marks.

The ladies, courtesy of their oil company employer, had taken over Gray’s trendy new hair salon Biyoni, for a Saturday night party pamper session.

“The oil company even managed to write off the expense as a team- building exercise,” says Freshwater, Biyoni’s creative services director.

Freshwater, whose background is in marketing and design, has never wielded a pair of hair scissors in his life, and was hired by salon owner Gray to help devise an innovative marketing campaign to make the salon stand out from the crowd.

They used an effective blend of internet marketing and cross promotions with other businesses from a local sweet shop to a florist; struck discount deals with the city’s biggest employers; and sent cool recruits around the hottest bars wearing Biyoni T-shirts.

Less than a year after opening, the salon is thriving, Gray was named Shell Livewire Entrepreneur for the northeast and Biyoni will soon become Scotland’s first salon to offer online booking.

Gray is among a new generation of entrepreneurs determined to make their mark in Scotland’s hair and beauty sector which has grown by 30% over the past five years and is now worth (pounds) 415 million out of a total UK value of (pounds) 1.5 billion.

It is hard to succeed in a sector where competition is as sharp as the scissors - yet each year more cash is poured into salons as Scots become more image conscious.

Scotland already has some 4000 hair and beauty salons. About one- quarter of new businesses being set up by young Scots are in the beauty industry and beauty therapy is now the fifth most popular training course at HND level.

The market is booming as men cotton on to a secret women knew long ago - grooming is about more than vanity. It is also about being taken seriously, feeling good and grabbing precious me-time.

Jenny Blackburn, a former medical sales rep, opened The Men’s Room two years ago, Scotland’s first dedicated men-only beauty salon, offering a menu which includes wet shaves, chest waxes, eyelash tinting and cold beers. The only thing not available is “back, crack and sack”.

We primp, we perm, we powder - without blinking a mascara-lined eye about the potentially harmful ingredients we expose ourselves to in the name of beauty. Yet, walking into most salons is like entering a toxic cloud of ammonia and formaldehyde, not to mention an alphabet soup of chemicals you can’t smell. Over-the-counter beauty products aren’t much better, with most containing potential irritants and carcinogens. Unfortunately, these hazards are virtually ignored by the $28-billion-a-year mainstream cosmetics industry.

How safe are the cosmetics we use? A recent report published by the American Journal of Public Health found that women who dye their hair have a 50 percent higher risk of developing non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and men using commercial hair dyes have twice the risk of multiple myeloma, a malignant tumor of the bone marrow. Another study, by Italy’s University of Pisa, found a link between certain skin creams and thyroid toxicity.

Ruth Winter, author of A Consumer’s Dictionary of Cosmetic Ingredients, notes that “even though it has now been accepted that all chemicals penetrate the skin to some extent and many do so in significant amounts,” the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t require pre-market approval for cosmetics and is powerless to mandate safety testing. Although most cosmetic companies voluntarily test their products for common sensitivities, researchers from the National Research Council found that “of the tens of thousands of commercially important chemicals, only a few have been subjected to extensive toxicity testing and most have scarcely been tested at all.”
That doesn’t surprise Denise Santamaria, a professional manicurist and owner of Natural Nouveaux, a non-toxic salon in Las Vegas, Nevada, who was diagnosed with chemically-induced lupus. “I started getting sick when I began taking cosmetology classes,” she says. “Over the next 10 years, I battled digestive problems, frequent sinus infections, and excruciating pain in my back, chest and arms. It got so bad that there were days when I would crawl across the floor, almost as if I was trying to get away from the pain.” Neither she nor the doctors who treated her made any connection between her medical problems and the scores of chemicals she was exposed to in her job until a chemical screening showed high levels of the toxins benzene and toluene - both common ingredients in nail polish and polish remover.

Vagisil, a Combe brand, has launched a public education effort to inform women about their health and to encourage them to be proactive.

The Vagisil Women’s Health Center has recruited a panel of feminine health advocates, such as former president of Planned Parenthood Federation Faye Wattleton, for the new campaign, billed as “Feminine health myths and misconceptions: What you don’t know can hurt you.”

“While women have increasing access to health information, it may seem as though it changes daily. It’s one thing for professionals to sort through the latest clinical studies, but it can be difficult for the average woman,” Wattleton said. “However, in an age of managed care restrictions and less face-time with physicians, women must make certain that their questions are answered and their discussions are informed.”

Throughout the year, the Vagisil Web site will feature articles on common feminine health misconceptions and on topics ranging from teens’ concerns to menopause.

“Nowadays, women don’t have enough time with a physician to ask questions during an annual exam. This campaign intends to bring to light many truths that need to be told, so that women can have correct and accurate information when it comes to their health,”.

The American female is a very desirable customer. As the person usually in charge of most household purchases, this is the consumer that most mass market stores target as their primary customer.

For four years now, Drug Store News has sponsored a national sample of bauty care use and shopping patterns among American women. The study is conducted for us by the Princeton, N.J.-based Gallup Organization.

This year’s survey, which is based on a national projectable sample of 500 women, confirms that beauty care categories really are a popular way to a woman’s heart.

Merchandised and advertised strategically, beauty care categories like fragrances, lipsticks and mascaras can lure a woman into a store, and once there, of course, she can be tempted into browsing and buying other types of merchandise.

This year Gallup found that, based on their incidence and frequency of use, there are three color cosmetics categories that especially deserve to be highlighted, via merchandising and advertising, in the cosmetics departments of all chain drug stores. These are face, lip and eye color cosmetics.

According to Gullup, eight our of every 10 American women over 18 use face color cosmetics (80 percent) and lip color (80 percent), while seven out of every 10 (69 percent) use some type of eye color product.

In comparison, nail color is currently only used by half the adult female population (51 percent), while nail treatment products are only used by a quarter of the population (25 percent), according to Gallup.

Not only do the face, lip and eye cosmetics segments have the highest population of users, they are also the segments with the highest incidence of use, Gallup discovered.

Eight of all 10 users apply either a face, lip or eye makeup at least once a day.

However, only one-third (35 percent) of all nail color users said they use a color polish “all the time,” while 58 percent said they use polish “all or most of the time.”

Possibly because very few women are ever entirely satisfied with the skin tones they inherit, 65 percent of all women use either a liquid base foundation, and/or a face powder with a blush.

There’s no better time to reinvent yourself than when faced with a crisp new calendar showing 12 months of possibilities.

This is one reason so few of us can resist setting lofty, and oftentimes unattainable, New Year’s resolutions. We tell ourselves we’ll lose 20 pounds, exercise every day, and never eat another dessert. Yeah, right. We might as well vow to conquer the world.

“People come up with grandiose goals, but few of us are really capable of making huge changes in our lives,” says Alice Domar, Ph.D., director of the Mind/Body Center for Women’s Health at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School in Boston. “The only exception is when you have a baby–and then change is inevitable.”

From the top health experts across the country, here are 10 goals that can enhance your life in 1999 and that are simple enough to actually accomplish.

1 Get back to nature.

Every week, if not each day, walk amid the trees or beside water, says Dr. Pamela Peeke, a CNN health-news commentator and assistant professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore.

“Research shows people who do this are more content,” she says. “Nature is the best natural anti-depressant; it calms us and teaches us the patience to stop and be distracted by beauty. You’ll find the more connected you are to nature, the more connected you are to yourself.”

2 Rock your family tree.

If you haven’t checked your medical history, now is the time to find out which illnesses threaten your clan. Then decide with your doctor which disease screenings you’ll need and what checkups you or your family should have on a regular basis.

“Plan your tests for your birthday month, because this is the best gift you can give yourself,” says Dr. Nancy Snyderman, correspondent for “Good Morning America” and author of Dr. Nancy Snyderman’s Guide to Good Health for Women Over 40. “Also, that way you never forget them.”

3 Live in the moment.

“So many of us either fear tomorrow or regret yesterday,” says Domar, author of Healing Mind, Healthy Women. “As a result, we miss out on so much. Instead, we should be like toddlers and dogs, who are always in the now.” On your way home from work, stop to feel snowflakes melt on your cheeks or to savor a piece of chocolate as it dissolves on your tongue. During your shower, spend a second smelling the aroma of your shampoo as you massage it into your scalp. You’ll be surprised how much richer your day is when you’re mindful.
